Medicare Part B covers the cataract surgery because the procedure is perfomed by a physician rather than an optometrist. However, you would have to pay the 20% coinsurance amount for the eye glasses following the procedure and the procedure (20 percent of the amount Medicare approves for the surgical procedure and for the glasses and frames), or you can ask your doctor which glasses are fully covered by Medicare (typically only basic style frames). How much Medicare pays for the glasses depends on whether you get new frames, and if so how much they cost .
